Wrinkle treatment with hyaluronic acid fillers – information for patients
Treatment of non-mimetic facial wrinkles and volume restoration using fillers
The older a person gets, the more wrinkles appear on their face. Some wrinkles make us look more attractive, cheerful and likeable, while others give us a tired, tense and often grumpy expression. However, many people do not feel as old as their wrinkles suggest.
For this reason, the desire for wrinkle treatment that brings about a more positive appearance is more popular than ever among both men and women.
Fillers are part of the trend towards non-invasive treatments and have been very popular for several years. Today, wrinkle and volume fillers such as cross-linked hyaluronic acid, hydroxyapatite, autologous fat, etc. are a convincing alternative to costly surgical facelifts.
A wide variety of wrinkles can be corrected with filler injections. This is demonstrated by the impressive results achieved in:
- nasolabial folds
- eye wrinkles
- marionette lines
- lip wrinkles
- cheek augmentation
- Straightening of the jawline
- Lip augmentation
With increasing age and decreasing skin elasticity, wrinkle injections with botulinum toxin and hyaluronic acid are a suitable treatment option. The following mechanisms of action produce the desired appearance of a more relaxed, younger and yet natural facial expression. Botulinum toxin prevents muscle contraction in the relevant areas, reducing existing wrinkles and preventing new ones from forming. Hyaluronic acid gives the skin new volume, thereby smoothing out the corresponding wrinkles.
A combination of several therapies – known as facial composition – may be appropriate, such as reducing frown lines with botulinum toxin, lifting the cheek area with fillers and reducing jowls with injection lipolysis.
During an initial consultation, your doctor can provide information about the appropriate method, how it works, how long it lasts and the expected results.
Biodegradable substances such as hyaluronic acid are low-risk to use, but have the disadvantage that the effect is not permanent. Depending on the patient’s skin condition, the effect usually lasts for around 12–24 months. The treatment can then be repeated if necessary.
